Linking the network centrality measures closeness and degree

چکیده
Measuring the importance of nodes in a network with centrality measure is core task any application. There are many measures available and it speculated that encode similar information. We give an explicit non-linear relationship between two most popular node centrality: degree closeness. Based on shortest-path tree approximation, we analytic derivation shows inverse closeness linearly dependent logarithm degree. show our hypothesis works well for range networks produced from stochastic models derived 130 real-world data sets. connect results previous other distance scales such as average distance. Our imply measuring broadly redundant unless used to remove dependence The success suggests can be approximated by spanning trees which all statistically or more steps away their root nodes.

A Binary Search Algorithm for Correlation Study of Decay Centrality vs. Degree Centrality and Closeness Centrality
Results of correlation study (using Pearson's correlation coefficient, PCC) between decay centrality (DEC) vs. degree centrality (DEG) and closeness centrality (CLC) for a suite of 48 real-world networks indicate an interesting trend: PCC(DEC, DEG) decreases with increase in the decay parameter δ (0 < δ < 1) and PCC(DEC, CLC) decreases with decrease in δ. We make use of this trend of monotonic ...
متن کاملCloseness Centrality Extended To Unconnected Graphs : The Harmonic Centrality Index
Social network analysis is a rapid expanding interdisciplinary field, growing from work of sociologists, physicists, historians, mathematicians, political scientists, etc. Some methods have been commonly accepted in spite of defects, perhaps because of the rareness of synthetic work like (Freeman, 1978; Faust & Wasserman, 1992). In this article, we propose an alternative index of closeness cent...
متن کاملEgocentric and sociocentric measures of network centrality
Egocentric centrality measures (for data on a node’s first-order zone) parallel to Freeman’s [Social Networks 1 (1979) 215] centrality measures for complete (sociocentric) network data are considered. Degree-based centrality is in principle identical for egocentric and sociocentric network data. A closeness measure is uninformative for egocentric data, since all geodesic distances from ego to o...
متن کاملGraph Centrality Measures for Boosting Popularity-Based Entity Linking
Many Entity Linking systems use collective graph-based methods to disambiguate the entity mentions within a document. Most of them have focused on graph construction and initial weighting of the candidate entities, less attention has been devoted to compare the graph ranking algorithms. In this work, we focus on the graph-based ranking algorithms, therefore we propose to apply five centrality m...
متن کاملIncremental closeness centrality in distributed memory
Networks are commonly used to model traffic patterns, social interactions, or web pages. The vertices in a network do not possess the same characteristics: some vertices are naturally more connected and some vertices can be more important. Closeness centrality (CC) is a global metric that quantifies how important is a given vertex in the network. When the network is dynamic and keeps changing, ...
